Camaraderie on the Greens!

On Monday, June 14, 2010 one hundred four golfers participated in Variety’s 25th Annual Golf Invitational welcoming Liberty Mutual as event sponsor at the Fox Chapel Golf Club.  After enjoying a continental breakfast, golfers were greeted by representatives and guests of Liberty Mutual including Bob Dodson and James Doucet and foursome photos were taken. 

Shotgun start commenced at 11 a.m. and after a brief morning shower, the sun shone on a day of “birdies, pars and double bogeys” (no lucky golfer with a hole-in-one).  In good spirits golfers returned to the Club for dinner and the awards presentation.  Joining in the fun was Lamel Jackson and his family.  Lamel, age 20, of Wilkinsburg, recently received an indoor stair lift through Variety’s Kids on the Go! Program.

Winning names were announced from the “Cash for Kids” raffle board raising $7,700 for Variety’s kids.  Golfers took home Pittsburgh Penguin game tickets, overnight packages at area resorts and hotels, golf at Southpointe Golf Club and Glengary Golf Links, ladies golf shirts and totes, golf balls, dinner gift certificates and other great prizes.

At the end of the day, $70,000 was raised to help Variety to continue to provide quality programs and services for children with disabilities in southwestern Pennsylvania.
